Newman arrives

We used to have a cat named Ripley - he left our home on his own accord several years ago.   Since then the Parchman house has been quiet and cat-free.  A few weeks ago our vet friend Dr. Amy rescued some kittens and called my wife Veronica asking if we wanted one.  I, of course, said no.  More like, Hell no.  Well, last week the kids and I were talking about cats and it dawned on me that it was 3 to 1 in the household in favor of getting a kitten.  So I did the fair thing which was to have a lottery of sorts - if the kids could guess the number I was thinking of between 1 and 10 we'd get a cat.  After Zachary guessed incorrectly I thought I had this thing in the bag - the chance of Ryan guessing correctly was only 10%.  His name is Newman.  He was born on August 28th and began the destruction of our home on Friday the 13th, November 2009.

Happy Halloween!

This year was a bit different for Halloween : no snake for dinner, no spider for dessert, no pumpkin carving.  Instead we made paper mache heads, went to a neighborhood pizza party, decorated the front porch, and trick-or-treated until the kids complained that their candy bags were too heavy.

Ryan playing Basketball

We signed Ryan up for some basketball this year, and he is showing some rust after two years off. They've played two games so far, and while they haven't won a game yet, the last one was a nail biter. Included in the link below are two videos of random gameplay. I'll have to install my video editing tools one day - until then you will have to watch the unedited mess.

SharePoint Conference 2009

I happen to be one of the fortunate 7500+ people that got to attend the SharePoint conference in Las Vegas last week.  The theme of the show was all about SharePoint 2010, and what changes were coming for IT Pros and Developers.  I learned that while I have been scrambling to learn the 2007 codebase Microsoft has been busy - now I need to learn SilverLight and WCF too!   Good news is that the new developer experience should be much better.

Overall the conference was a bit disappointing.  While I am excited about the product, there weren't enough booth babes in attendance for my liking.  Still, thanks to Eric for letting me go!
